Warsh's Jackson Hole Debut: Market Awaits High-Impact Speech on Rate Hikes
The Jackson Hole Symposium is set to take place in Wyoming, where central bankers, economists, and institutional investors will convene to discuss global monetary policy. The event has become a crucial indicator of future moves by the Federal Reserve.
This year's symposium is significant as it marks Kevin Warsh's first intervention as president of the Federal Reserve. David Norris, Portfolio Manager at TwentyFour Asset Management, notes that Warsh must deliver a high-impact speech to clarify the Fed's monetary policy objectives.
Since the July FOMC press conference, Treasury yields have risen, and the 2-30 year curve has steepened. The market now discounts a probability of a rate hike in September between 30% and 40%, down from an estimated 82% in mid-July.
The FOMC minutes have shown growing impatience for inflation, but no sign of imminent tightening. Laura Cooper, Global Investment Strategist at Nuveen, notes that governments and companies linked to artificial intelligence are competing for capital, while the dollar and gold remain under pressure.
