Warsh's Jackson Hole Speech May Bring Unwelcome Silence on Interest Rates
Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh is set to deliver a keynote speech at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on Friday.
This event has become a significant indicator for investors as it traditionally signals where interest rates are heading. However, this year's speech may not provide the guidance that investors have come to expect from Warsh.
Warsh has stopped providing clear clues about future interest rate decisions since becoming chairman three months ago. Inflation has been rising, and some of his colleagues are calling for raising borrowing costs for the first time since July 2023.
'I don't expect any signals to come out of Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech,' said Jan Groen, chief US economist at global financial firm Societe Generale. 'And if I'm right, I think the market is not going to like it.'
