The US Federal Reserve is set to make its interest rate decision at its two-day meeting on July 29, 2026. Market participants are uncertain about what the Fed might do, with some expecting a surprise rate hike due to high inflation concerns.

Fed officials have kept rates steady this year as they wait for temporary price pressures from tariffs and the war in Iran to wane. However, concern is mounting that inflation won't reach the Fed's 2% target unless higher rates are used to rein in demand.

Chairman Kevin Warsh has refused to reveal his own views on interest rates, adding to the uncertainty. Stephen Stanley, chief US economist at Santander US Capital Markets, said 'we're actually going into the meeting with legitimate uncertainty.'
