Weakened Yen Hits Hawaiian Tourism
The Japanese yen has hit its lowest level in about four decades, causing concern for Hawaii's tourism industry.
Jerry Gibson, president of the Hawaii Tourism Alliance and a former hotelier with Hilton Worldwide, believes that this could lead to difficulties for tourists coming from Japan to visit the islands.
'Those of us leaving Hawaii and going to Japan will find an incredible experience and great rates. Those leaving for Japan to come here to the islands; it's going to be tough on them,' Gibson said.
Gibson worries that a weaker yen will mainly affect 'that middle end group' who regularly visit Hawaii, which he considers 'the best tourist you ever want to have.'
