White House Renews Bid to Oust Fed Governor Lisa Cook Over Mortgage Allegations

The White House has renewed its attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from her position. A letter dated August 5 addressed to Cook's attorney claims there is 'sufficient reason to believe' that she made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements.

Cook has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with a crime. The allegations were first raised by the Trump administration last year, prompting a Justice Department investigation.

The Supreme Court ruled in June that Cook was not given the opportunity to address the administration's accusations when President Donald Trump announced her firing last year. However, the ruling did not determine whether there was enough cause to remove Cook based on the fraud allegations.

Cook's attorneys stated that 'these allegations are as baseless now as they were a year ago' and that 'there is no valid cause for removing Governor Cook.'
