White House Repeats Bid to Oust Federal Reserve Governor Over Mortgage Fraud Claims

The White House is renewing its effort to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from her position. The move comes after a letter was sent to her attorney, dated August 5, alleging that she made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements. This is not the first time the Trump administration has raised these accusations against Cook.

Last year, the Justice Department investigated the claims, but no charges were filed. Cook's attorneys have denied any wrongdoing and stated that the allegations are baseless. They plan to challenge this latest move and preserve Cook's position on the Fed's Board of Governors.

The Supreme Court ruled in June that Cook was not given the opportunity to address the administration's accusations when President Trump announced her firing last year. However, the ruling did not determine whether there is enough cause to remove Cook based on the fraud allegations.
