The White House has renewed its effort to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from her position at the nation's central bank. The move comes after President Trump first raised unproven allegations of mortgage fraud against Cook in August 2025.

According to a letter sent by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino on August 5, Cook has three weeks to respond to the allegations. The letter warns that if she is found guilty, she could face up to 30 years in prison and her trustworthiness as a Fed governor would be called into question.

Cook's legal team has pushed back against the claims, stating that 'there is no valid cause' for removing her. They plan to challenge this latest attempt and preserve Cook's position as the first Black woman to serve on the Federal Reserve Board.
