White House Threatens to Oust Fed Governor Over Mortgage Allegations
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has shot down renewed threats from the White House to fire her from her position. Cook's attorneys, Abbe Lowell and Norman Eisen, stated that there is no legal basis for President Trump to remove Cook 'for cause'.
The issue stems from allegations of mortgage fraud, which Cook denies. The Supreme Court had previously ruled that Cook could remain in her position while the case is litigated.
Cook maintains that any errors on her part were unintentional and did not rise to a level that justified her firing. She also pointed out that Trump's administration has accused her of doing what they themselves reportedly did, declaring two homes as 'primary residences' in mortgage applications.
