Women Dominate August Jobs Report with 98% of Gains

The US jobs report for August showed an unexpected trend: women accounted for nearly all of the job gains in the month. According to a CNBC analysis, women made up 98% of the 162,000 jobs added in August, while men contributed just 4,000 net positions.

This anomaly has been highlighted by The Economic Security Project, a progressive nonprofit, and is not an isolated incident. In fact, over the past year, the number of employed women has grown by more than 870,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis, while men have lost nearly 1.5 million jobs.

The healthcare sector, which is dominated by women, continued to drive labor force expansion in August. Women also made significant gains in sectors like manufacturing, which are traditionally male-dominated.
