Worldline Chosen for Digital Euro Pilot Programme
Worldline has been selected by the European Central Bank (ECB) to participate in the digital euro pilot programme, along with several other payment infrastructure operators and banking technology vendors.
The pilot will assess digital euro payment journeys across consumer and merchant use cases, including in-store NFC contactless, e-commerce, and mobile commerce.
Worldline's Luxembourg-based payment institution, which holds a pan-European licence, will participate in the pilot through its German and Austrian acquiring subsidiary, PAYONE, giving the group a multi-jurisdiction footprint across the pilot programme from the outset.
'We are entering this pilot with our strength of connecting the digital euro with the payment solutions already used across Europe,' said Pierre-Antoine Vacheron, Worldline group chief executive. 'Our combination of connectivity, processing, acceptance and orchestration capabilities will allow clients to accelerate readiness while reducing complexity.'
