Yen Gains Fizzle as Volatility Continues
The yen made significant gains against the US dollar after an unexpected soft jobs report in the United States, causing traders to speculate about potential government intervention. The Japanese currency rose by 0.4% on the day, reaching a price of 157.76 per dollar as of 5 p.m. in New York.
However, despite this brief surge, the yen actually ended the week slightly weaker than where it began, following a period of volatility caused by interventions from Japanese and US authorities. The currency had gained nearly half its initial gains from these interventions.
