Yen Holds Steady Against Dollar Amid Rate-Cut Bets

The Japanese yen has been trading steadily against a softer US dollar as market participants weigh growing expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts. The USD/JPY pair hovered near recent levels, reflecting a market that has already priced in much of the near-term outlook.

The dollar's slight weakness stems from renewed bets that the Fed may begin cutting interest rates later this year, a shift that typically undermines the greenback's yield advantage.

However, the yen's gains have been limited by the Bank of Japan's reluctance to aggressively tighten monetary policy. While inflation in Japan has remained above the central bank's 2% target for an extended period, policymakers have signaled that they want to see more evidence of sustainable wage growth before committing to further rate hikes.

The yen is currently trading around the 156 level against the dollar, a range it has held for most of the week. Investors are now closely watching upcoming US economic data, particularly inflation reports and employment figures, for clues on the Fed's next move.
