Yen Intervention Sparks Reversal in US Dollar Trend
The US Dollar to Yen exchange rate has seen significant fluctuations recently, falling nearly 6 yen from its late-July peak near 164. This decline is attributed to a coordinated intervention that has forced traders to rethink their positions in the one-way Yen trade.
MUFG believes this intervention may mark a broader turn in the trend for USD/JPY. However, they do not expect a sudden sharp drop in value, predicting instead a more gradual decline.
The pair has already fallen 2.9% over recent days, but MUFG notes that it would be surprising to see USD/JPY break back to previous intervention levels of 163-164.
