Yen Short Bets Plummet 50% After US-Japan Intervention
Hedge funds have significantly reduced their short bets on the yen following a joint intervention by the US and Japan. According to data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, contracts tied to leveraged funds' short bets on the yen decreased by 6.5% to 59,526 in the week ended August 11.
This represents more than half of the funds' initial short position against the Japanese currency since authorities coordinated around the turn of the month to support the yen.
The reduction in negative sentiment surrounding the yen is a sign that market participants are reassessing their positions after the unprecedented joint action by US and Japan. The exact extent of the impact on the yen's value remains uncertain, but this development suggests that investors may be shifting their views on the currency's prospects.
