Yen Soars as Japan-US Joint Intervention Takes Hold
The Japanese yen made significant gains against the US dollar on Monday, August 3rd, as markets reacted to a joint intervention by Japan and the United States aimed at stabilizing the currency.
The intervention, which took place on July 31st, saw Japan's Ministry of Finance purchasing yen in coordination with the US Department of the Treasury. This move was carried out under a previous agreement between the two countries' finance ministers to address disorderly market movements.
Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said that the intervention was intended to counter excessive volatility and that authorities would continue monitoring market conditions. He also stated that Japan would not hesitate to conduct further joint interventions if needed.
