Yen Soars as Rate Hike Bets Drive Currency Higher
The yen has surged in value, rising almost 1.5% to a high of 156.36 per US dollar on Thursday.
This sharp increase comes after a sudden jump in the previous session, with traders attributing the move to increasing bets on Bank of Japan rate hikes rather than any intervention by Japanese authorities.
The yen has extended its gains from overnight, when it rose 0.9%, and has reached its strongest level in a month.
