Yen Soars on Carry Trade Unwind, Rate Hike Bets Fuel Rally
The Japanese yen experienced a significant surge on Thursday, rising by more than 2% against the US dollar. This sudden increase in value was largely driven by investors unwinding their yen-funded carry trades, which helped send the currency to its highest level against the dollar in a month.
This trend continued into Friday, with the yen holding most of its gains from Thursday's rally. Traders have been ramping up bets on further rate hikes by the Bank of Japan, which has contributed to the yen's increased value.
