Yen Soars on Speculation of Government Intervention
The Japanese yen experienced its strongest one-day gain in years, surging by as much as 3% against the U.S. dollar.
This significant move was triggered by speculation that Japanese authorities may have intervened in the foreign exchange market to support the struggling currency.
As a result of this intervention, the USD/JPY exchange rate rose from near ¥164 to below ¥158, marking the yen's largest one-day advance since 2022.
The sharp increase in the yen's value caught many investors off guard, with analysts suggesting that official intervention was likely responsible for the sudden appreciation.
