Yen Soars to Near Seven-Month High as Markets Eye Fed Rate Path
The Japanese yen has strengthened to near seven-month highs against the US dollar on Tuesday, with the currency hovering around 153.81 per dollar.
This recent surge in yen value is partly attributed to expectations of faster Bank of Japan policy tightening and the potential repatriation of overseas funds by Japanese investors.
According to Marc Chandler, chief market strategist at Bannockburn Global Forex, this rise appears to be a continuation of last week's powerful short squeeze, with no obvious signs of official intervention.
The euro has fallen to near nine-month lows against the yen, trading around 178.83 per euro.
Market attention is also focused on upcoming US economic releases, including consumer and producer price data, which may influence the Federal Reserve's policy path.
