Yen Stabilizes After Sharp Swings Following Japan-US Intervention
The Japanese Yen's value fluctuated wildly after a coordinated intervention by Japan and the US. The USD/JPY pair opened at 157.58 on August 3rd, but plummeted to 155.20 when officials confirmed joint action.
The sharp drop was triggered by Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama's statement regarding the MOF's involvement in the intervention.
However, the pair quickly recovered, reaching above 158 on August 4th as market participants anticipated further intervention. The USD/JPY continued to trade above 158 by August 7th, despite initial concerns.
