Yen Surges 2.5% Amid BOJ Hawkish Hopes

The Japanese yen has been on a tear this week, with its value increasing by over 2.5% against the US dollar as traders bet on a Bank of Japan interest rate hike.

The yen's strength has some analysts attributing it to a re-evaluation of the Bank of Japan's policy stance, with expectations that it may continue normalizing policy into 2027.

This reassessment comes ahead of the central bank's meeting on September 17-18, and traders are cautiously buying into the idea of a more hawkish BOJ path.

However, Japan's top currency diplomat Atsushi Mimura remains vigilant, stating that he is in constant contact with US authorities and remains alert to exchange-rate moves.
