Yen Surges as BOJ Officials Hint at Faster Rate Hikes
The yen surged to its highest level since August 10 after Bank of Japan officials made hawkish comments about potentially speeding up interest rate hikes.
The pressure from the U.S. government also contributed to the yen's rise, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant urging Japan to take decisive monetary policy measures to address the yen's underestimation.
According to a report by Hideaki Kiuchi, a senior economist at Nomura Research Institute, there is a 97% probability of a rate hike in September, which would significantly shorten the hike cycle.
The interest rates on Japanese government bonds also soared, with the 10-year Treasury bond exceeding the 3% mark for the first time in 30 years and the 30-year ultra-long product settling above the 4% mark.
