Yen Surges Near Seven-Month High as Dollar Steadies Amid Oil Price Hikes
The Japanese yen hovered near a seven-month high on Tuesday, with the dollar remaining largely unchanged against major peers. The yen's gains are attributed to several factors, including expectations of faster Bank of Japan policy tightening and the unwinding of carry trades.
According to Marc Chandler, chief market strategist at Bannockburn Global Forex, the yen's rise is 'a continuation of what we saw last week, which was a powerful short squeeze.'
The euro traded near a nine-month low against the Japanese yen at 179.37 per euro, with some analysts attributing this to investors' growing concerns about inflation.
Market attention is also focused on a series of U.S. economic releases this week, including consumer and producer price data, which are seen as key indicators ahead of the Federal Reserve's September 15-16 policy meeting.
