Yen Surges Past 157 Against Dollar Amid Speculation of Intervention
The Japanese yen experienced a significant surge against the US dollar on July 30, briefly reaching the upper 157 range.
This rapid movement in currency values prompted speculation that the Japanese government and Bank of Japan had intervened in the foreign exchange market through yen-buying and dollar-selling.
The yen had been trading at around 162 against the dollar earlier in the evening before a sudden acceleration in buying pushed it to its new high.
This marked the first time the yen reached the 157 level since May, leaving uncertainty over whether intervention can halt its underlying depreciation.
