Yen Surges to Seven-Month High as Rate Hike Expectations Soar
The yen has surged to a seven-month high due to rising market expectations of a rate hike by the Bank of Japan next week. The USD/JPY pair fell as much as 0.94% to 152.89, its lowest level since February 17, before recovering slightly to around 153.55.
Bank of Japan Policy Board member Hajime Takada stated that “25 basis points is not set in stone,” suggesting the possibility of consecutive rate hikes.
The market's focus on this week’s U.S. PPI and CPI data has increased expectations for a rate hike, with CME data indicating approximately a 60% probability of a rate hike in September.
