Yen Surges to Seven-Month High as Traders Bet on Bank of Japan Rate Hike
The Japanese yen has reached its strongest level in seven months against the US dollar, surging to 152.89 per dollar in Asia and surpassing levels from Japan's July intervention.
This marks a significant shift for the currency, with traders now betting on a faster pace of Bank of Japan tightening, potential repatriation by Japanese investors, and the unwinding of carry trades.
According to Khoon Goh, head of Asia research at ANZ, 'when the yen started to move stronger, I think it triggered a lot of stop losses... especially when they started to break some of those key levels.'
The next key level to watch will be 150, as traders and analysts continue to assess the yen's momentum.
