Yen Under Pressure as BoJ Meeting Looms
The Japanese yen has been under pressure in September 2026, trading around 160.21 against the US dollar and near 114.5 against the Australian dollar.
A stronger Australian dollar means Australians can currently buy more Japanese yen for the same amount of AUD, but the question now is whether the yen will weaken further from current levels or mark a major turning point at its next policy meeting on September 17-18.
The Bank of Japan (BoJ) has become increasingly concerned about inflation and yen weakness, with Governor Kazuo Ueda stating that the central bank will continue considering further rate increases and assess whether economic conditions and inflation risks are developing in line with its forecasts.
Despite previous interventions, the yen remains close to levels that have triggered intervention concerns, creating a complicated risk-reward setup for forex and CFD traders.
