Yen's Brief Retreat Undercuts US-Japan Intervention Efforts
The joint US-Japan intervention to support the yen has shown its limits in recent days. After a brief retreat, the yen's value returned to around ¥138 against the dollar, down from ¥131.5 earlier this week.
This is despite efforts by both countries to stabilize the currency through various measures. The intervention appears to have only provided temporary relief, highlighting the challenges of influencing exchange rates in today's global markets.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance acknowledged that the intervention had not achieved its intended results, citing the yen's tendency to appreciate rapidly after such interventions.
