Yuan Firms Up Despite Dollar Surge
China's yuan remained stable despite the recent surge in the US dollar. Exporters took advantage of the rebound to convert their dollar receipts into yuan, creating steady demand for the currency.
The People's Bank of China (PBOC) kept its daily 'fix' largely steady at 6.7828 per dollar, even as spot trading hovered around 6.7200. Analysts at Huatai Futures and Nanhua Futures attributed this to the dollar's post-Fed pop encouraging exporters to sell dollars.
This dynamic is significant because China's economic data remains uneven. As a result, policy signals and corporate flows play a more substantial role in determining the exchange rate than growth headlines.
