Zelenskyy Visits Canada Amid Ongoing Military and Economic Cooperation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Canada on Thursday night for an official visit to bolster military and economic support. The visit will focus on shared priorities between the two countries, particularly deepening strategic cooperation in defense, economy, and energy.
Zelenskyy's trip comes after a visit to Norway, where he attended the funeral of King Harald and met with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to discuss strengthening Ukraine's air defense systems. The Ukrainian president will hold meetings with senior government officials in Canada and attend public events in Calgary, Toronto, and North Bay.
A controversy arose when Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre revealed that Zelenskyy's plane had narrowly avoided being struck by a Russian drone while departing Moldova on Tuesday. However, a Ukrainian presidency source downplayed the incident, stating that claims of a real threat to Zelenskyy's life were 'exaggerated'. The Moldovan government confirmed that its defense systems destroyed the drone 160 kilometers from Chișinău International Airport.
