$1 Million Grant Aids Minneapolis Organizations Supporting Families in Crisis
The Annunciation Hope and Healing Fund is among several organizations receiving $1 million in grant funding from the United Health Foundation. The fund was established by the Catholic Community Foundation of Minnesota to support families affected by a mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School on August 27, 2025.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey recalled the traumatic event, remembering one father who rushed towards the church with his toddler in tow, asking if his child was okay. The incident had a profound impact on Frey, leaving him feeling helpless.
The grant funding will be distributed among several organizations, including the Washburn Center for Children, the Minneapolis Foundation, and the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. These organizations provide vital support to families in crisis, including mental health services and short-term respite care for children.
UnitedHealthcare CEO Tim Noel emphasized the importance of community coming together to support one another during difficult times. He recalled a horrific event at his own organization, where an employee was murdered, but noted that the outpouring of support from the community was a source of hope and comfort.
