$10 Million Amazon Fraud Scheme Lands Atlanta Woman 16-Year Prison Sentence
An Atlanta woman has been sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison for masterminding a massive fraud scheme against Amazon that netted nearly $10 million.
Brittany Hudson, 40, was convicted of 30 felony charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Her partner, Kayricka Wortham, 35, had previously been sentenced to 17 years in prison for her role in the scheme.
The duo submitted over 1,000 fake invoices to Amazon between January 2022 and July 2022, claiming that fake vendors had provided goods and services to the company. Wortham, who worked as an operations manager at the Amazon warehouse in Smyrna, approved the invoices in her role at Amazon.
The money was used to buy luxury vehicles, including a Lamborghini Urus and a Porsche Panamera, as well as a $1 million home in Smyrna. The couple also attempted to use the funds to open a hookah lounge in Midtown Atlanta by falsifying court documents with forged signatures from a Chief U.S. District Judge and a Cobb County Magistrate Judge.
Hudson was ordered to pay restitution of $9,469,731.45 to Amazon, forfeit her Smyrna home and vehicles, and an additional $3 million. The couple's scheme was described by the U.S. Attorney as 'a massive fraud scheme against Amazon' that showed 'utter contempt for the law.'
