$105K Scam Unfolds Over Phone Call Demanding Immediate Payment
A man in Escambia County, Florida, allegedly lost $105,000 after receiving a phone call claiming that missing jury duty could lead to arrest. The caller demanded an enormous cash payment and posed as an employee of the Santa Rosa County Clerk of Court.
The victim was told by the caller that jail was possible unless the matter was resolved through an immediate payment of $105,000. The caller remained in constant telephone contact with the victim while they withdrew the money from a bank.
The entire sum was handed over to a person collecting the payment at a Home Depot parking lot. Authorities have not disclosed whether surveillance footage captured the exchange or if any of the cash has been recovered.
