$108 Million US Open Prize Money Record Set Amid Calls for Greater Player Compensation
The U.S. Tennis Association has increased prize money for this year's US Open to a record $108 million, according to newly appointed CEO Craig Tiley.
Tily said the decision was aimed at ensuring players receive their 'fair share' of tournament revenues.
Men's and women's singles champions will each receive $5.5 million, a 10% increase from last year and the highest payout ever awarded to a Grand Slam singles winner.
The USTA has also added additional player gifts, including an Uber voucher worth $2,500 and an American Express card with $1,000 credit on it.
