£1.5m Former IBM Site to Become Major Data Centre

Plans have been submitted to build an 80,000-square-metre data centre on a former IBM site in Greenock. The proposal, lodged by Slate Island Developments Ltd with Inverclyde Council, would see the creation of a major digital infrastructure facility.

The site is owned by local businessmen Sandy and James Easdale, who acquired it for £1.5m in 2018 after IBM vacated the premises in 2016. The application includes four data centre buildings, associated infrastructure, car parking, landscaping, and access roads.

A design and access statement from planning consultancy Pegasus Group highlighted strong interest from a data centre operator and noted that such a use is well-suited to the site due to growing demand nationally for data centres.
