1.7 Million Attic Ladders Recalled Due to Critical Bolt Failure Risk

A major recall has been issued for over 1.7 million attic stairway ladders sold nationwide in the US, as well as an additional 13,054 units in Canada. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was not directly involved in this recall, but rather it was initiated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after receiving complaints from consumers.

The recall affects ladders sold under the brand names Louisville, Featherlite, Lite & Century, which were equipped with gas struts and had spreader bolts that could fail while in use. According to the recall notice, there have been 11 reports of bolt failures, including one incident where a consumer suffered neck, head, and back injuries.

The recalled ladders were sold at various retailers nationwide, including Home Depot, Lowe's, Do It Best, Orgill, and on Amazon, between November 2012 and July 2026. Prices ranged from approximately $170 to $600.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled ladders immediately and register for a free repair kit by visiting the recall website and providing their ladder's model number.
