1.7 Million Attic Ladders Recalled Over Safety Concerns
A massive recall of over 1.7 million attic ladders has been issued by federal safety officials due to a critical flaw in their design. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the bolts on these ladders can snap during use, posing a serious fall risk for anyone climbing up or down. At least 13,000 units of this ladder were also sold in Canada.
The affected models are attic stairway ladders with gas struts sold under the Louisville, Featherlite, Lite & Century brands. The recalled ladders have openings of 22.5, 25.5, and 30 inches wide, with lengths of 54 or 60 inches. Consumers may have purchased them from various retailers across the country, including Home Depot, Lowe's, Do It Best, Orgill, Amazon, and others.
The recall spans a significant period, from November 2012 through July 2026, with prices ranging between $170 and $600. Unfortunately, there have been 11 reports of bolt failures, including one injury where an individual suffered 'an injury to the neck, head, and back.'
