1.7M Attic Ladders Recalled Over Bolt Breakage Hazard
A recall has been issued for over 1.7 million attic stairway ladders sold nationwide due to a potential fall hazard. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) received complaints from consumers, prompting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to announce the recall.
The recalled products include Louisville, Featherlite, Lite & Century Attic Stairway Ladders equipped with gas struts. These ladders were sold at various retailers and online through Amazon between November 2012 and July 2026, with prices ranging from approximately $170 to $600.
The manufacturer has received 11 reports of bolts breaking, including one incident where a consumer suffered injuries to the neck, head, and back. The recall affects both aluminum- and wood-frame attic stairway ladders with handrails that fold into the ceiling.
