$25M Arizona Investment to Combat Screwworm Threat
Arizona's livestock industry is set to benefit from a major investment by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and local agricultural leaders.
U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) welcomed the announcement of $25 million in funding for a sterile fly dispersal facility, which will help combat the New World screwworm threat.
The investment was made possible by the work of local agriculture leaders and federal officials, according to Rep. Ciscomani.
The congressman has been advocating for a domestic sterile fly dispersal facility as part of a long-term national response to the pest.
Rep. Ciscomani praised U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins' responsiveness and willingness to act swiftly on common-sense solutions, which he said 'has made a real difference.'
