$25M Investment Targets Screwworm Threat in Arizona Livestock Industry

U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced on July 29 a $25 million investment to combat the New World screwworm in Arizona's livestock industry.

The investment will fund a sterile fly dispersal facility in Douglas, Ariz., and reopen the Douglas Port of Entry for cattle imports from Sonora, Mexico.

Ciscomani, who has been advocating for enhanced biosecurity measures to protect Arizona's livestock industry, said the investment is 'the direct result' of his efforts with local agricultural leaders and federal officials.
