$30 Million Challenge Aims to Transform Public Services with AI-Powered Solutions
The Google.org Impact Challenge has announced the selection of 15 organizations that will receive $30 million to transform public services using AI. These teams, chosen from a pool of over 2,600 proposals, will work with Google engineers and product experts through a dedicated accelerator program.
The projects aim to address complex challenges in areas such as emergency response, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure management. For example, CIV:LAB is developing AI-powered tools to reduce local government emergency response coordination times during heatwaves, floods, and infrastructure crises.
Other teams include Code for America, which is speeding up free tax filing for low-income households; Disaster Mitigation Research Center, Nagoya University, mapping emergency medical supply and demand in real-time; and Johns Hopkins University, helping municipal transportation departments make better road safety decisions.
