$3,000 Payment Lost in Puerto Rico Renovation Nightmare
A Jersey City couple's dream of retiring in Puerto Rico was put on hold when they lost $3,000 meant for their home renovation. Michele Marino-Martinez and David Martinez had been saving for years to build a quiet island escape, but the funds disappeared after a vendor error caused by Capital One.
The couple had made a payment for new windows at Home Depot using a store credit card through the Capital One app. However, instead of sending the payment to Philadelphia as intended, Capital One sent it to an unfamiliar P.O. box in Illinois. As a result, Marino-Martinez was left with no explanation for the missing funds.
After six months of trying to get the money back, 7 On Your Side intervened and contacted Capital One and Home Depot on behalf of the couple. In response, Capital One investigated the matter and determined that it was caused by a vendor error. The company then made the customer whole and apologized for their patience.
