$3.7 Billion Boeing Deal Under Scrutiny as Lawyer Demands Answers on Approval Process
A Bangladeshi lawyer has questioned the $3.7 billion purchase of 14 Boeing aircraft by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, seeking details on who authorized the deal and whether the necessary approvals were followed.
The lawyer, Barrister MMG Sarwar, issued a legal notice to government officials and Biman's top management, asking for information on the approval process and procurement procedures. He also sought clarification on the feasibility assessments and financing arrangements that preceded the agreement.
Sarwar's notice references Bangladesh's Constitution and Public Procurement Act of 2006, arguing that expenditure of public funds requires proper documentation and competitive procurement procedures.
The lawyer has given government officials and Biman chiefs seven days to respond to his notice. If they fail to provide the requested information or take action, he will approach the High Court with a writ petition seeking judicial review of the transaction.
