3M Stock Soars 14.3% Amid Sector Decline
3M Company's (MMM) shares have gained momentum in the past year, rising by 14.3% compared to the S&P 500 composite's growth of 22.5% and its industry's decline of 24.1%. This significant performance puts MMM ahead of its peers ITT Inc. (ITT) and Carlisle Companies Incorporated (CSL), with shares increasing by 27% and decreasing by 2.3%, respectively.
The company is currently trading close to its 52-week high of $184.90, significantly higher than its 52-week low of $139.34. The stock's price stability is reflected in the fact that it is trading above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, indicating solid upward momentum.
Analysts attribute MMM's strong performance to its Safety and Industrial segment, driven by strength in personal safety, industrial adhesives and tapes, abrasives, and electrical markets. The Transportation and Electronics segment is also gaining from strength in transportation and aerospace end markets.
The company has a positive outlook for 2026, with total adjusted organic sales expected to grow more than 3.5% year over year. 3M has been undertaking structural reorganization actions to reduce costs and improve margins and cash flow. The acquisition of Madison Fire & Rescue in partnership with Bain Capital has also strengthened the company's safety portfolio.
