46-Year-Old Man Charged After Officer-Involved Shooting in Benton Township

A 46-year-old man remains hospitalized after being arraigned on Tuesday for his role in an officer-involved shooting in Benton Township. According to the Berrien County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred on Friday when police responded to a report of a man firing a gun at a woman near the Home Depot off Pipestone Road.

The suspect, identified as Peter H. Pearson, refused to exit his van when approached by police and allegedly pointed a gun at them. He later ran into nearby woods and was shot by a member of the sheriff's department Tactical Response Unit during the search.

Pearson has been charged with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a police officer. His bond was set at $250,000.
