5 Major Attractions Closed or Unavailable at Disney World in August
Walt Disney World has issued closure notices for five major attractions, affecting visitors in August. The Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom is currently closed for a major update, which will include new scenes designed to refresh the experience while maintaining its connection to Walt Disney.
The attraction was closed on July 6, 2026, and is expected to reopen sometime in 2027. A new introductory scene featuring an Audio-Animatronic figure of Walt Disney will be added before guests begin their journey through the decades.
Mickey Shorts Theater at Hollywood Studios has also been closed since August 9, 2026, as it serves as a temporary distribution center for an exclusive Annual Passholder magnet. This closure is expected to last only until later in 2026.
Big Top Souvenirs at Magic Kingdom remains unavailable after closing on February 20, 2026, and is expected to reopen sometime later in the year. The Walt Disney World Railroad has also been modified due to ongoing construction in Frontierland, which will continue for some time.
The Lake Buena Vista Golf Course closed on May 4, 2026, and is expected to reopen in fall 2026.
