$50 Million Disney Streaming Price Fix Settlement Deadline Looms
A $50 million settlement has been reached in an antitrust lawsuit filed against The Walt Disney Company over allegedly inflated streaming prices.
The plaintiffs, subscribers of YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream, and FuboTV, accused Disney of using its size to raise prices marketwide by increasing the cost of its own products. This alleged practice led to a significant increase in prices since Disney took control of Hulu in 2019.
Disney denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a partial settlement with YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream. Subscribers who purchased a subscription for these platforms between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026, may qualify for payment.
The settlement fund will be split between two groups of members: those in 'repealer jurisdictions' (90%) and those in 'non-repealer jurisdictions' (10%). The remaining amount after administration costs and fees will be used to provide a pro rata cash payment based on the length of subscription.
