$500B Nvidia-SK Group Partnership Ties Next-Gen Chips to HBM4 Memory
Nvidia and SK Group have announced a massive partnership worth more than $500 billion, which ties Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin chips directly to SK Hynix's high-bandwidth memory production for years to come. The deal is built around the supply of HBM4 memory, which Nvidia's upcoming chips depend on.
The agreement includes a long-term commitment from SK Hynix to supply Nvidia with high-bandwidth memory, as well as a joint research partnership to develop and optimize next-generation AI memory.
SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung has warned that the company's factories cannot catch up to demand before 2030, making this deal essential for Nvidia. The company raised $28 billion in a Nasdaq listing two weeks earlier, which was widely seen as tapping U.S. capital markets directly while the global AI boom funds memory expansion.
The partnership also includes plans for SK Telecom to build a 2-gigawatt AI data center, with the first phase expected online in 2027. This will run on Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform and draw on SK Hynix HBM4 memory.
