$60 Billion Bet: Disney Puts Fans at Center of Theme Park Strategy
Disney's theme park division has outlined its investment strategy, which prioritizes fan engagement and loyalty. Thomas Mazloum, chairman of Disney Experiences, announced plans to invest $60 billion over a decade in its parks, with a focus on refurbishing popular attractions and introducing new ones.
The company aims to balance its expansion plans with targeted updates and upgrades that cater to regular attendees, including annual passholders. Mazloum stated that the goal is to 'put our fans and the consumer and the guests into the center of our decision-making.'
Disney has already seen success in this approach, with its experiences division posting nearly $10 billion in revenue in the fiscal third-quarter earnings report, a 10% increase from the same quarter last year. Domestic park attendance was up 3%, and guest spending rose 4%. The company attributed strong attendance to its Cool Kids Summer promotion.
Upcoming projects include the refurbishment of the Carousel of Progress and the opening of the Monsters, Inc.-themed Monstropolis land in 2027. Disney is also working on its Avengers Campus expansion, Villains Land, and retheming Frontierland featuring the Cars franchise.
