747s Get New Lives: Retired Planes Turned into Party Venues and Diving Spots
The Boeing 747, once hailed as the 'Queen of the Skies,' has been largely replaced by newer twin-engine planes like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. However, some retired 747s have found new lives around the world.
One such example is a former British Airways 'party plane' in England's Cotswold Airport. The aircraft was nicknamed Negus 747 and was preserved as an event space for weddings and birthday parties after being bought by airport CEO Suzannah Harvey for just £1 ($1.35) in 2020.
The renovation cost around $675,000, with a rental rate of approximately $16,200 for 24 hours or $1,350 per hour. The venue offers original cabin seats and peer into the cockpit and upper deck, as well as a bar where guests can dance.
